Because sewer lines are underground, many defects remain completely hidden until they create a backup, leak, blockage, or complete sewer failure.

Protect Your Home From Hidden Sewer Line Problems

Most homebuyers focus on what they can see: the roof, walls, flooring, kitchen, bathrooms, and landscaping. However, one of the most expensive and overlooked systems is completely hidden underground — the sewer line.

At The Sewer Inspection Company, our professional sewer camera inspections help identify hidden sewer problems before they become expensive surprises. Whether you are buying a home, selling a property, negotiating repairs, or maintaining your current home, a sewer inspection provides information that a standard home inspection simply cannot provide.

What Is a Sewer Scope Inspection?

A sewer scope inspection involves inserting a specialized waterproof sewer camera into the property’s main sewer line. The camera travels through the pipe while recording high-definition video of the interior condition of the system.

This process allows us to:

  • Detect hidden sewer line problems
  • Evaluate pipe condition
  • Identify root intrusion
  • Locate bellied sewer lines
  • Document standing water
  • Find broken or cracked pipe sections
  • Evaluate cast iron pipe deterioration
  • Identify future maintenance concerns
  • Locate sewer line defects before closing

Because sewer lines are underground, many defects remain completely hidden until they create a backup, leak, blockage, or complete sewer failure.

Why Sewer Problems Often Go Undetected

One of the biggest misconceptions among homebuyers is believing that if the toilets flush and sinks drain, the sewer line must be in good condition.

Unfortunately, that isn’t always true.

Over the years I have inspected homes throughout Plano, Dallas, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, and North Dallas where everything appeared normal inside the house, yet the sewer camera revealed major defects underground.

Some of those properties required significant repairs. Others simply needed cleaning or maintenance. Without the camera inspection, there would have been no way to know the difference.

The sewer line is one of the few major systems in a home that cannot be visually inspected without specialized equipment.

Common Sewer Line Problems We Find

  • Root Intrusion — Tree roots entering through joints and cracks.
  • Bellied Sewer Lines — Low sections of pipe that hold standing water.
  • Offset Pipe Joints — Pipe sections that have shifted due to settlement.
  • Broken Sewer Lines — Cracks, fractures, and structural failures.
  • Cast Iron Pipe Deterioration — Rust, scale, and channel rot inside older systems.
  • Standing Water — Potential indicators of settlement or poor drainage.
  • Construction Debris — Dirt, grout, and debris left inside sewer lines.
  • Improper Repairs — Previous repair work that may not perform correctly.
